Artists
Under the leadership of award-winning artistic director Gustavo Ramírez Sansano, Luna Negra Dance Theater has risen to the forefront of American contemporary dance. The company has commissioned and presented works by acclaimed Latino choreographers such as Luis Eduardo Sayago Alonso (Venezuela), Alejandro Cervera (Argentina), Fernando Hernando Magadan (Spain), Michelle Manzanales (Mexico), Fernando Melo (Brazil), Annabelle Lopez Ochoa (Colombia), Gustavo Ramírez Sansano (Spain), and Eduardo Vilaro (Cuba).
Luna Negra also collaborates with artists from other disciplines to create richly textured and highly original works of contemporary dance theater. Recent collaborations have resulted in exceptional projects with world renowned artists and organizations, including jazz legend Paquito D'Rivera, Peruvian singer Susana Baca, the Turtle Island Quartet, Chicago Sinfonietta, Grant Park Music Festival, Ravinia Festival, and Tiempo Libre.
