Angel Meléndez
Angel Meléndez decided to pursue his musical career after witnessing a performance by his cousin Carlos Rexach with the orchestra “La Solución.” One of the top musicians in Chicago, he leads many Latin bands based in the city. Meléndez has been the musical director and arranger for some of the most world renowned Salsa artists including Andy Montañez, Ismael Miranda, Adalberto Santiago, Cheo Feliciano, Frankie Ruiz, Eddie Santiago, Lalo Rodriguez, Hector Tricoche and Johnny Rivera among others. Angel Meléndez and his orchestra have performed in most of the top venues in the City of Chicago including the Chicago Jazz Festival, Chicago Conference of Mayors, Symphony Center, House of Blues, Park West, Taste of Chicago, Chicago SummerDance Program, and Viva Chicago Latin Music Festival, among many other conventions, galas and corporate events. Angel Meléndez’s first full-length CD, “Angel Meléndez & The 911 Mambo Orchestra,” was mixed and mastered by 18-time Grammy award-winner Jon Fausty, and produced by Andrés Meneses under the label Latin Street Music, Inc. The debut CD was nominated in the 47th Annual Grammy Awards under the category of “Best Traditional Tropical” Latin Album. The CD also won the “Best Latin Album” Award in the 4th Annual Independent Music Awards 2005.
