Chicago Sun-Times review of Spring 2009 Season

March 30, 2009 - BY HEDY WEISS Dance Critic - On all fronts it was a reason for celebration as Luna Negra Dance Theater marked its 10th season Saturday night and, despite the arrival of a wintry spring storm, attracted a huge (bilingual) audience to the Harris Theater for Music and Dance.

Not only did the company's feverishly danced program showcase the work (including one world premiere) of four female choreographers, all with Latino roots. But on top of everything, its artistic director, Eduardo Vilaro, was presented with a $25,000 "Hopie" award, the annual prize given by the Lester and Hope Abelson Fund for the Performing Arts, and designed to reward "innovation and smarts."
