You cannot (and should not) judge a company by its audience. But just for the record: Chicago's Luna Negra Dance Theater attracts one of the hippest, most fashionably dressed and altogether most diverse (both ethnically and age-wise) audiences to be found anywhere in this city. That certainly was the case Saturday night, as the company danced the second of its two-nights fall engagement at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, with an impressively large and enthusiastic audience in attendance.
Of course, who could resist a program filled with tangos, mambos and acrobatic pas de deux, as well as more demanding contemporary work that shows every sign of becoming a certifiable classic? Equally irresistible is the emotional fire and technical wizardry this troupe now demonstrates at every turn.
